Pg  50)   At a Court held for the County of Brooke at the Court house of the said county on Monday the twenty fifth day of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight   Present: Moses Congleton, John Edie, John Gardner and Andrew Henderson  Esquires

 

John C. Campbell a native of Ireland this day applied to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States whereupon the said John C. Campbell exhibited a certificate of the clerk of this Court showing that he arrived in the United States more than five years previous to the date hereof which certificate is as follows:

            In the County Court of Brooke 26 April 1819

John C Campbell an alien who has lately arrived in the United States and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof this day appeared in Court and in pursuance of the act of Congress made a report of himself which report is in the following words To Wit:  I John Charles Campbell make the following report of myself to the county court of Brooke county Virginia that is to say I report that I was born in that part of Great Britain and Ireland, called Ireland on the 11th day of October in the year of our Lord 1797 being now in the 22nd year of my age that I am a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, allegiance to that Monarch and none other that immigrations from Ireland to the United States in the year 1815 and that intended to settle myself in the county of Brooke in the state of Virginia one of the United States.

            Given under my hand this 26th April 1819

And the said John C Campbell also exhibited a certificate of the clerk of the county court of Brooke, aforesaid that more than two years ago he had declared on oath in the said court his intention to become a citizen of the United States which last mentioned certificate is in these words:

            In the County Court of Brooke 26th April 1819

John Charles Campbell a native of that part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland called Ireland this day declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce from all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty whatever and particularly to George the third, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

And being proved to the satisfaction of the Court by the testimony of ?-? Miller and Daniel M. Edgington citizens of the said United States who were examined as witnesses on oath that since the arrival of the said John Charles Campbell as aforesaid he has resided within the United States five years at least and within this state one year at least and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the condition of the United States and well deposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he the said John Charles Campbell declared on oath in open Court that he will support the constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure al allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate state or sovereignty whatsoever and particularly to George the Fourth King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and thereupon the said John C. Campbell is admitted a citizen of the said United Sates
