     HINDMAN FAMILY: James was a native of Ireland, and at what time he settled in Brooke county we cannot learn, but it was at a very early date in the settlement of this portion of west Virginia. He was married in Lancaster county, PA. to Miss Mary McCully and reared a family of five sons.

     FRANCIS HINDMAN: the fourth son of James Hindman, was born in 1793, in Brooke county, West Virginia, where he resided all his life, was a farmer by occupation; married in about 1816 to Miss Mary Litton. He served all through the war of 1812 under Gen. Harrison, reared a family of nine children, of whom six are still living. He died in 1856.

     JAMES HINDMAN: son of Francis Hindman, was born in 1819, in Brooke county, where most of his life has been spent, is a carpenter by trade; was married March 4, 1841, to Hester Wallace and reared a family of five children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom are living.
