     THOMAS EVERETT was born in Wellsburg, Dec 15th 1825, and has resided in the place ever since. His father, Joshua Everett, settled in Wellsburg in 1804, from Maryland, and engaged in the business of coopering. He enlisted in the war of 1812, and was at Fort Meigs, in the infantry, under Maj. Conkelton. He returned from the war to Wellsburg, and in 1815 married Miss Margaret Buchanan; resumed his trade of a cooper; reared a ;family of seven children. Our subject was educated at the Wellsburg Academy. Married in 1849 to Miss Martha Johnston. Mr. Everett first engaged in the grocery trade. In 1856 he went into the manufacturing business, in connection with merchandising. About 1860 he purchased over 500,000 pounds of wool He quit the mercantile business in 1876, and turned his attention more exclusively to manufacturing, and during that time the firm name has undergone several changes, and is now styled Everett, Bracken &Co.
