Pentecost, Dorsey

     Was a Virginian, who settled in the present Westmoreland County, PA in 1759. He served as magistrate for Pennsylvania, but in the boundary dispute sides with Virginia and was one of Connolly's ablest lieutenants. In 1777 he removed to Youghiogheny River, and for several years was a judge for Washington County. In 1778 he aided as county lieutenant in gathering troops for Clark's Illinois expedition. He died in 1802 at his home on Chartier's Creek.

     Dorsey Pentecost records shows up in our Brooke county court order books, from `1799 to 1818 (This 1818 reads, Late of Washington Co Penna, died) 1803 shows him as deceased. The 1818 records are the records his estate settlement. (Page 1476) This lists him as COL. His name is spelled PENTICOST on many of these early records.

     There are other Pentecost (Penticost) names listed also. Catherine, Joseph, Rebecca, James, George W. Thomas Keep in mind, these court orders establish that a person was HERE and the YEAR they were in the county.
