     J F COUNSELMAN: The grandfather of the subject of this sketch was born on the river Rhine, in Germany, and emigrated to this country at an early period;, and settled in Maryland, while the father of our subject was born, in 1776, and where he married Elizabeth Jones. The father removed to Brooke county in 1814, and bought the farm on which the subject of our sketch as born, April 1 1819, where he still resides. The father raised a family of eight children, who grew up to years of maturity. This son, J F Counselman, married August 26, 1841, Miss Emeline B Locke, daughter of Rev Simon Locks, a pioneer Methodist minister. He has raised a family of four children, two sons and two daughters, William F., Clarinda V., Mary R and J. E., Clarinda V. married H C Morgan and lives in Ohio county, W VA and Mary R. married Alexander Kuhn and lives in Mason county W VA. The father of Mr.C died in 1866, in his ninetieth year, lacking only two months of being ninety years old at the time of his death. Mr. Counselman is an energetic enterprising farmer and lives about a mile south of Bethany.
