     THE BRADY FAMILY : BERNARD The first one of the name that settled in Brooke county, emigrated from Ireland. He first settled near Philadelphia, where he remained till in 1796, when he removed to Brooke county, and settled on a farm near Cross creek. His son John Brady, was about three years old at the time his father came to Brooke county. His education was very limited and at an early age, he as bound out to a Mr. Russell, of Wellsburg, to learn the cooper trade, where he remained until of age. Shortly after, he went on the river as a trader, in which business he remained for about forty years, amassing quite a fortune. He walked from New Orleans to Wellsburg, eleven times. He run the flat boats down, and as that was before steamboats days, they had to make the journey back on foot. He first bought 200 acres of land on Cross creek, where he lived for about eight years. He then sold and bought the farm where his son John now lives. Before his death, he owned 1,000 acres; was married in 1818 to Miss R F Shimplin, and reared a family of four sons and two daughters of whom four are sill living. He died March 8th 1877, in this 88th hear, respected by all who know him.

     JOHN BRADY Jr. was born October 15th 1825, in Brooke county, where he has always resided. Was married April 6th 1852 to Miss J Hamilton, and reared a family of seven children. Business-farmer, wool and grain grower. Produces about 1,600 pounds of wool annually

     WILLIAM S. BRADY the oldest son of John Brady SR. was born December 2, 1820, in Wellsburg. Received a limited education. Followed farming as a business all his life. Married October 9th 1845 to Hannah Cory of Brooke county, and reared a family of three children, all of whom are living. Grows about 1,200 pounds of wool annually.
